Austrian Fans Cheer The Team's First Goal As Johnny's Pub Opens At 6am With Free Breakfasts
By Mike Leidig
This is the moment Austrian football fans erupt in celebration as their team scores during a 6am screening at a packed Vienna pub.
Supporters gathered at Johnny’s Pub on Schleifmuehlgasse in Vienna’s 4th district to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup match live on big screens.
Footage shows the early-morning crowd cheering wildly as Austria hit the back of the net.
Fans can be seen raising their glasses, waving flags and chanting as they celebrate Romano Schmid’s opening goal, which put Austria ahead 1–0.
Pub owner Johnny Szewczuk had promised to open whenever the Austrian team was playing, without realising some of the kick-off times would be as early as 6am.
But the antisocial start did not stop supporters from turning up for a pint while they watched the game.
The pub also served free breakfasts to fans who had made the effort to watch the match at dawn.
The venue was full despite the early hour, with the atmosphere closer to an evening match than a morning screening.
Johnny’s Pub is expected to keep opening for Austria’s matches as the tournament continues.
